Sterling Trucks History
The original incarnation of Sterling Trucks
was purchased by White Trucks in 1953
and quietly discontinued in 1955.
Freightliner took on the Sterling name
decades later, in 1997,
when the company acquired
Ford's heavy duty truck division,
including their legendary L (Louisville) Series.
This Sterling bears hexagonal grille
that was one of the Louisville's defining features.
Freightliner retired the Sterling name in 2008,
but if the company's history up to now is any guide,
the Sterling name will appear again
on other high quality trucks in the future.
