More Trucks Here! Mack Trucks has been in business for more than a century. Over the years they've built a bit of everything, including buses, trains, APCs, and fire trucks. The Mack tradition of introducing innovations into their products – theirs were the first trucks with air and oil filters, drive shafts, and power brakes – continues to this day. Just as importantly, their trucks are still built with the power and tenacity that earned them the “Bulldog” nickname long before the bulldog mascot ever graced their trucks. The Mack B series were introduced in 1953. It was the replacement for the A series, and showed the results of the lessons Mack had learned producing tens of thousands of vehicles for the Allied war effort in World War II. A number of successful variants were built, including tandem axle, school bus, fire truck, “extreme service” and export versions. Then, as now, the Mack was truly an all-purpose vehicle.

Built “Mack Tough,” this 1962 B61 single-axle tractor features a cab design that Mack had used since the 1940's that would soon be superseded by the more familiar design often seen today. The truck is powered by a Mack 673 6 cylinder diesel engine, and has a legendary Mack Triplex transmission (for the uninitiated, that's a 5 speed transmission with a 3 speed auxiliary) and rides on heavy-duty walking beam suspension with 11x24.5s on a 19 foot wheelbase. Mack is as well-known today as it was a century ago for its tradition of power and innovation. Its commitment to quality and longevity also should not be overlooked. Mack trucks from the 1940's through the 1960's can be spotted, to this day – some with bungee cord and duct tape strategically placed – still chugging stubbornly along. This B61 bulldog may not be pretty, but it's roadworthy, with a big heart that just won't quit.
